"We didn't all come over on the same ship, but we're all in the same boat."
- Bernard Baruch, American financier and statesman
It's no secret that today's workplace is rapidly becoming vast, as the business environment expands to include various geographic locations and span numerous cultures. What can be difficult, however, is understanding how to communicate effectively with individuals who speak another language or who rely on different rules of communication.
To effectively communicate in cross-culture environment the project manager needs to be very adaptive in his or her communication strategy.Yes,its time consuming and does require a lot of effort but they there is no other alternative if you want to be successful. For effective communication LANGUAGE IS ALMOST NEVER THE ISSUE - its communication rules and the way in which language is interpreted. I have read numerous book, attended conferences on Asian culture and business environments but the one that really resonantes with my real life experiences is a book by Greg Bissky-Wearing Chinese Glasses.
I highly recommend this book for any project manager or team member involved in roll-outs to Asia or work with offshore team in Asia. Click here for the book details>>
